Medical Device Product Destruction

We offer secure shredding and product destruction for surgical devices.
We offer secure shredding and product destruction for surgical devices.

A company that manufactures large medical devices for surgical procedures called us about a product line that had been manufactured incorrectly and was not up to their quality control standards. If their medical devices had been thrown away in a dumpster, their product could be picked up and potentially counterfeited or resold. Instead, they looked for a partner in Utah who could ensure secure product destruction.

We transported over 1000 of the units from their facility via GPS tracked truck and unloaded them in our secure indoor facility. In preparation to shred the surgical devices, we separated the product from the retail boxes. We carefully cleaned our warehouse shredders that we use daily for our confidential paper shredding services. We then recycled the cardboard packaging, and fed the individual devices onto our conveyer for shredding. The shredder cut them again and again and rendered them into unidentifiable bits of material.

We have intense machinery. The whole process only took a couple of hours, keeping costs down and making it a financially reasonable project for our client. We provided pictures and video to our client showing that the product was processed to their specifications. As well, we provided a Certificate of Destruction for their legal records. Our client was highly satisfied with the outcomes of this destruction project. They will send any more destruction projects our way to ensure their brand confidentiality and safe disposal of proprietary medical devices.

Yesterday we made the assertion that hospital administrators need to take a more serious roll in safeguarding and protecting patient information.  Today, I read that privacy and security budgets are 1 to 3% of the overall IT budget.  Money speaks loudly to where people put their effort and focus. Privacy and security is last on… Continue Reading

Data Breaches at Hospitals

The Ponemon Institute published their annual report on Data Breaches at hospitals across America. The findings are alarming and continue to reflect a lack of attention, resources, and funding on safeguarding patient information.
